FEPA (Federation of European Producers of Abrasives) Washington Mills has created a particle size conversion chart to assist our customers in selecting the correct grit size based on millimeters, microns, or inches. For more information, visit Federation of European Producers of Abrasives

Chart of Abrasive cutting rate vs. Sharpness Scotch-Brite table Trizact table NOTES: It is impossible to make exact comparisons between all the different abrasives because different standards are used for average, minimum and maximum size, the percentage allowed outside those limits, and the distribution of sizes within those limits.

Oct 30, 2017· In FEPA (European standards) there are separate grit size standards for coated abrasives like sandpaper (FEPA P) and bonded abrasives like most stones and grinding wheels (FEPA F). Grit designations under different systems have different ranges of particle size considered as acceptable maximum, minimum, and average effective size, all in microns.

Superabrasive applications which require heavier stock removal utilize larger grit sized abrasive grains. The sizing of larger abrasive grains is also determined by international standards organizations, and the table below shows a comparison of FEPA, mesh, and .

Sep 08, 2014· Pure opinion: Buying sharpening stuff would be easier if manufacturers used microns to describe the particle size of the abrasive in each product. While microns isn't a perfect description, it's a heck of a lot better than saying a stone is a "fine crystolon" when that stone is useful only for grinding away damage on.

A Micron row is added to each FEPA P, FEPA F, JIS und ANSI row for comparison. MM Micro-mesh grit in comparison to other standards. The grit sizes are defined by the number of lines per inch (25.4 mm) length of each sieve e.g. 150 lines per inch. Abrasives grit 150 will pass this sieve. This chart is a general overview only.

Our Sharpening Stone Grit Chart After discussing the topic of grit coarseness and fineness we decided to come up with our own chart. Since one person's "fine" and one manufacturers "fine" may mean something completely different we established a 1 to 10 grit chart with 1 being the most coarse and 10 being the most fine.

Mar 30, 2007· A #1,000-grit waterstone isn't the same grit as #1,000-grit sandpaper. (Heck, #1,000-grit sandpaper in the United States isn't the same as #1,000-grit sandpaper in Europe.) The reason is that sandpaper, waterstones, oilstones, diamond stones and silicon carbide stones all use different systems to tell you how coarse or how fine the material is.

Here is a grit size comparison chart that will come in useful when comparing across different grit systems! The grit sizes are defined by the number of lines per inch (25,4 mm) length of each sieve e.g. 150 lines per inch. Abrasives grit 150 will pass this sieve. This chart is a general overview [.]
